And it worked. Somewhere along the way, we stopped talking to each other. Soon after, we stopped understanding what our neighbours even believed. As the echo chamber locks tighten and the filter bubbles thicken, we should ask ourselves: do the Left really understand the Right? Does the Right know the Left?
What’s more, what becomes acceptable discourse seems to change every day. Conversations that could be had on major channels a decade ago are condemned to dark corners of the internet, while fringe arguments from the bored backrooms of college campuses become the new gospel.
As the Overton window shifts back and forth, only one thing remains constant: the need for truth.
